The Pen

Everything is beeing written about this last debate between Mdm Le Pen and Mr Macron;
In fact this is the ultimate substancial, meaningful and influential happening to EUROPE .

The last debate was clarifying, as for the two candidate positions concerns about. Though existing lots of demagogic issues by both of the speeches, Mr Macron showed lot more preparation and confidence, wich was a surprise for me, given the age of the candidate 39 (if he's ellected makes him the youngest; younger than Napoleon 40). He fought hard, not that the expected positions of Mdm Le Pen were to dificult to argue, but because mostly they are empty ones (as her speech went essentialy to close boards and deal with terrorism actions), and also to really make a clear stand for what he deffeends. Metaphorically she was crawling, while he was running for power.
I believe Europe will be in better hands with a moderate President....and with a new inspirational profile.

So this next Sunday, unless there's an wildcard, no surprises expected.

Ciao G,

This is an interesting assessment, that's for sure. I didn't watch the debate, but a couple of French analysts seem to have made a different reading into Mr Macron's delivery: they say he is the one with empty words. They also say he simply repeats what Hollande has said in 2012; and this week we learned the speech writer he hired used to work for Le Pen. Based on this, it can argued he is all over the place, example: to a socialist audience he says "I am a socialist" to a non-socialist audience he says "I'm not a socialist, never been, I am an independent"...(it's all documented) what do you infer from this?

I see a pattern forming: young pretty faces getting elected (by the people? Hmmm) and not being politically efficient. Ex: Obama, Trudeau and now Macron (if he wins). Is this what we want for the future of politics?

Cheers

Hi Max thx for coming by!
I've saw the whole debate, and think when a person (Le Pen mostly) can't support its own arguments/ decisions, its demagogic populism on its best. I'm just emphasizing the choice itself i.e.its hard to choose when you have a "pretty face" and an extreme right winger.... I dont want to see Europe plunged in uncertainty more than it actually is.
Anyway as an European i want peace and progress (stability, employment, economic growth, and protection for the vulnerable)
2 end notes: its interesting how close the speech of Mdm Le Pen is so close to
Extreme Left wing... (with the exception of the racism, and defense...) sometimes i could close the eyes and listen portuguese Catarina Martins at Bloco de Esquerda speaking.
Apart from the political positions... there are some face phisionomy resemblenses between Salazar, Passos Coelho and Mdm Le Pen ah ah :))

Ciao G,

You're welcome.
If she didn't support her view with facts then she obviously deserved to lose. But I have a question: that woman is not dumb, by the contrary, so what made her pursue such a strategy? Did she really want to be a President or was she eyeing something else? 11 million people will become handy next month.

As a European, surely you have realised that we do not have peace, no stability, no economic growth (if I'm not mistaken the only countries set to truly grow are the UK, Brexit an all; and Germany), unemployment is rife (again, the only two countries with low unemployment rates are the UK and Germany) and the vulnerable are not being protected. How can that change with Macron, as a Portuguese citizen?

You are right about the similar rhetoric between the extreme right and left wings; but still there are differences. But do not be fooled: the Left (in general) is as racist as the far right - remember Hitler? His National Socialist party was racist but so was the Communist Party (both very anti-Semitic, though the Soviets were more subtle about it out of convenience). LOL Poor Catarina Martins, let's not exaggerate. Besides, she doesn't have Marine Le Pen's intelligence (with all due respect).

What do you mean by physiognomy resemblances? Salazar was of Jewish descent, are you saying that Passos Coelho e Marina Le Pen are the same?

Cheers

My vote is just a continuous utopic hope...since politics have failed me until now. But in my head i can dream... cant i? tax free. Some time ago i went to dachau and had the opportunity to see and realize of how easy it is to take advantages of society misbelief/
lack of hope (starv, unemployment, ...)
easy propaganda and buzz that captured the citizens attention .... surely dont wan't another lunatic to repeat history. Sorry but i cant follow you saying that mdm le pen has a (real) strategy for le peuple. So many women in France and le pen is the only solution? Give me a break! Resemblenses :thin lips.

G,

I suggest you re-read my comments above because I never said that Marine Le Pen had a "real strategy for le peuple". Well, take it to the French: why didn't the Socialist party put forth a female candidate? Because the last it did, Sarkozy ate her alive; why didn't the right wing party put forth a female candidate? Because that party has a true gender problem, from my perspective. Why didn't any independent woman run for president? Because no one would give her the money like they did to Macron. Marine Le Pen apparently was the only woman strong enough (in many senses) to run; but you didn't answer my question: what was her purpose, her strategy (when obviously to win was not it)?

Cheers

Hey Max. I don't think that she has a strategy at all, besides power to rule.though she knew that wouldn't win... all the power that she can get is still usefull... even if it is in the long term. Oh well...
